How can you apply for a Telephone connection? 

 

By producing a Postal order of Rs.10/- the application form can be received from the Sub-divisional Offices and the Commercial Section of the Office of the General Manager. top

Are Heart Patients eligible to get a new connection within 15 days from the date of submission of applicant?

 

Yes. A temporary connection for 6 months will be given according to the availability of the line. This should renewed in every 6 months time. Doctor's certificate should also be produced.top

Is there any rule which states that those who have applied through the General/O.Y.T. Scheme will receive the connection within a specified time? If there is any delay, will the customer get compensation?

 

As 40% is reserved for them, they may get the connection in 6 months time. They will receive an interest of 10% from the date of payment. 3% of the money will be received as waiting charge for O.Y.T. Scheme after 6 months and for the General Category after 2 years. The amount will be deduced in the telephone bills. top

Is the amount deposited through the O.Y.T. Scheme refundable?

 

The amount will be deduced from the bill within 20 years (in 120 installment). top

Will the person who has received the O.Y.T. Scheme, get back the amount if he goes out of station?

 

He will receive the entire amount if he applies to the S.D.O.T. top

Yes.

If a person has his own instrument should he pay for another instrument supplied in the Telephone Department?
 

No. But in such cases, faults will not be repaired by the Telephone Department. If the person has his own telephone, Rs 250 will be deduced from the installation charges. If he also does the necessary wiring, 500 will be deducted from the installation charges.

What should the customer do if the charges does not correspond to the No.of calls made?
 

He can file a complaint in the exchange.

What should the customer do if the officials in the Telecom department misuse the telephone?
 

A written complaint should be sent to the S.D.O. (INDORE)

Do the tel:department check the faults as soon as reported?
 

The rules state the ordinary faults should be checked within 24 hours, and Cable faults within 48 hours.

If the phone has not been working for more than one week, a certain amount will be reduced from the rent.

A fine of Rs. 100/-, the bill and 10% as our charge should be paid. If it remains disconnected for more than 3 months, the number could be lost. After a period of 6 month the connection will be lost for ever.

Is a person liable to be punished if he draws an extension without informing the department?
 

A person is free to take one extension even without informing the department.

Can a customer buy or sell his telephone?
 

Yes, but the transaction can be done only after one year from receiving the telephone connection. It can done officially by submitting document duly signed by the seller and the buyer. top

How many extensions are permitted from a telephone?
 

More than one extension is permitted with the permission of the department. Extension to the other side of the road is not permitted. Internal exchanges can be set up. If it is done through the department a sum is charged. top

Is the customer permitted to know the reason behind the increase in his phone bill?
 

If necessary, a detailed bill is given to the customer as the details are stored is the computers memory (if the exchange is computerised).  top

What are the steps involved in telephone disconnection if the bill is not paid?
 

The department directly informs the customer. For 15 days, he will receive only the incoming calls. Soon the disconnection order will be sent from the telephone billing unit. top

i) The licencee's name, the telephone No: of the booth or the working hours, rate charged on calls to near by in places should be displayed.

ii) A book of complaints should be kept ready.

iii) S.T.D. facility should not be used in places which enjoy Group dialing or direct dialing facility.

iv) The computer used for billing purpose should be authorised by the department.

A cordless phone with 100 m. capacity can be used without permission. top

Can the telephone be shifted from one place to another within the house?
 

Accessories like plug, socket and long chord cannot be shifted from place to place. The connection will be disconnected as this is against the laws. This can be done with the permission of the department. top

Can the tenant use the telephone of the owner?
 

All telephone except those belonging to the special category can be used. The owner has to produce a written statement, stating that he is responsible for everything regarding phone. RS.100/- should be paid as fees for permission. The bill will be sent in the name of the tenant. top

How can we identify telephone employees?
 

Each employee has an identify card with his or her photo affixed. His or her name & designation will printed on it. top

What action can be taken against threats & abuses showered by strangers through the telephone?
 

If complained, the phone will be kept under observation and strict action will be taken. top

What can be done to transfer a telephone connection to another persons name?
 

It is possible only in certain cases. i)) From a dead person to his legitimate heir. ii)From a subscriber to his father, mother, wife, husband, son, daughter, sister, brother. iiii) In cases of a subscriber changing his name.iv)A phone in the name of an organisation can be transferred. if its name changes or if the management changes.  v)In case of organisation sold for more than Rs.20,000, connection can be transferred to the name of the new organisation. vi)In case of partnership, it can be transferred to the name of a single partner with the permission of others. vii) If a person has been working for more than 5 years in a limited company in a private a public sector the owner's phone connection can be transferred to his name. viii) If a subscriber who is a foreigner, on leaving the country, his phone connection can be transferred to the company. ix) The person who transfer the phone has to clear all lines regarding his connection. x) To transfer the registration firm a relations name a sum of Rs.100/- should be remitted. xi ) Applications are available from the Commercial office. top

What is Waiting List Transfer?
 

If the customer does not receive connection even after sending an application, he can transfer his application. He receives priority by doing so. top

Should a subscriber pay for Automatic Alarm facility?
 

Yes. top

Is the telephone connection given on priority basis, Describe ?
 

i) Temporary scheme - RS . 3,000/- should be remitted as registration fees. After checking technical feasibility Rs. 27,000/- should be paid. The connection will be received within 2 weeks.

ii) S.W.S. - Freedom fighters & their widows can apply. There is no installation fee. The rent is half the original rate. The place to which connection is applied should be the permanent place of residence.

iii) Applications recommended by MPs through the Directorate of Telecom services, New Delhi are given out of turn priority.

iv) S.S - Embassies, from foreign countries, U.N. Organisation,. MPs, M.L.A.s, Municipal Councilors, Retired Central government Officials can apply through this.

v) O.Y.T. special- Govt. department, those earning foreign currency, officers retired from public sector organisation, Officers of the Telecom department, theater owners, Gas Agents, are eligible to apply.

vi) O.Y.T. General - The people must pay 15,000/- if the exchange has more than 10,000 connection.
Rs. 10,000/- must be paid in case of exchange which have connections above 1000 but below 10,000.
Rs. 8000/- should be paid in an exchange having a capacity of less than 1000 connections.

vii) Non O.Y.T. Special- Registered Doctors, Nurses, Midwives, Award winners, Small scale industries, News agencies, Govt. Schools.

viii)General Category Rs. 3,000/- should be paid if the exchange has the capacity of 10,000 lines Rs. 10000/- in Rural Exchanges (Capacity below 1000) above mentioned rates are liable to be changed. top
